If you need to go in the street, pass on the left as cars do, after yelling, “passing on the left.” Never pass a car without first warning of your presence. Always look left-right-left and cross when it is safe. You must obey all traffic regulations.

Stay aware of surface conditions such as water and potholes, and changing weather. Avoid wet or oily surfaces.

Check the condition of your skates regularly. Replace worn wheels and brakes. Wheels should be securely tightened and not blocked by debris.

The Ocean County Parks and Recreation Department will hold its annual South Jersey Canoe & Kayak Classic on Saturday at Ocean County Park in Lakewood.

Every year, skaters who have had the best results and won titles are invited to tour with “Champions on Ice.”

Olympians are invited, guaranteeing performances by great athletes such as Sasha Cohen, Victor Petrenko, Surya Bonaly, Rudy Galindo, Evgeni Plushenko, Johnny Weir and pairs skaters Qing Pang and Jian Tong, Rena Inoue and John Baldwin, Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov, and Marina Anissina and Gwendal Peizerat.

They’re skaters “who have had tremendous success and built really big names in the sport,” said Evan Lysacek, 2007 U.S. champion and two-time world-championships bronze medalist, who skates in the show.

“Champions on Ice” is a blend of show business, ice dancing and the athletic leaps and turns these skaters are known for, done in solos, pairs and teams. The entire cast appears for the big opening and closing ensemble numbers.

Ferrari and other big racing teams spend millions of dollars on building racing cars for Formula One, but now there’s a cheaper way.

Students of Bangalore’s RV College of engineering are all set with the ashwa RZ 06. Built with the 600 cc engine of a motorbike, it’s the second race car they’ve built in just four years.

The students hope that the race car designed and engineered by them will someday be manufactured as a low cost weekend racing car.

Its not quite the batmobile but the the Ashwa RZ 06 is unique in its own ways.

The car is all set to race at the Formula Society of Automative Engineers in Germany for the second time. The manufacturers hope to do better than the No 18 that they managed the last time in the competition with their engineering counterparts across the world.

The Ashwa RZ 06 is a way ahead of the RZ 05, which was their first attempt at designing a race car. The new version has more power and more importantly it is safer, all at a production cost of just Rs 4 lakhs.

But what’s intersting is that the car is not meant for professional formula one racers. It is a low cost racing car that uses the accelerator brake clutch system for weekend racers.

“Formula one racers can manage any racing car. A weekend racer on the other hand needs an easily adaptable system. As a result we also have to concentrate a lot more on the saftey measures,” said Mudit Khanna , Student member, Ashwa Project.

It’s a college project that began in the year 2002. Only a select few make it to the design team of Ashwa racing but once on the team there seems to be little else of the minds of these young engineers.
